Nonlinear Peltier Effect in Quantum Point Contacts

چکیده
A theoretical analysis of the Peltier effect in two-dimensional quantum point contacts, in field-free conditions and under the influence of applied magnetic fields, is presented. It is shown that in the nonlinear regime (finite applied voltage) new peaks in the Peltier coefficient appear leading to violation of Onsager’s relation. Oscillations of the Peltier coefficient in a magnetic field are demonstrated. q 1998 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved

Coulomb drag in quantum circuits.
We study the drag effect in a system of two electrically isolated quantum point contacts, coupled by Coulomb interactions. Drag current exhibits maxima as a function of quantum point contacts gate voltages when the latter are tuned to the transitions between quantized conductance plateaus. In the linear regime this behavior is due to enhanced electron-hole asymmetry near an opening of a new con...

We investigate the nonlinear regime of charge and energy transport through Coulomb-blockaded quantum dots. We discuss crossed effects that arise when electrons move in response to thermal gradients (Seebeck effect) or energy flows in reaction to voltage differences (Peltier effect). We find that the differential thermoelectric conductance shows a characteristic Coulomb butterfly structure due t...
متن کاملWhat are Landauer’s conduction channels in an atomic-size metallic contact?
Using microfabricated break junctions, we have produced Al and Au contacts consisting of a small number of atoms. These metallic quantum point contacts accomodate a small number of conduction channels. We have determined the individual transmission coefficients in contacts containing up to six conduction channels. The determination is based on a comparison of the highly nonlinear current–voltag...

Hanbury Brown and Twiss demonstrated the quantum phenomenon known as “photon bunching” in 1956 using a second-order photon intensity correlation technique, opening the field of photon quantum optics. The study of higher-order correlation functions in photon and atom-cavity systems has subsequently led to a more complete understanding of the quantum statistical and quantum mechanical phenomena r...
متن کاملNonlinear Peltier effect and the nonequilibrium Jonson-Mahan theorem
We generalize the many-body formalism for the Peltier effect to the nonlinear/nonequilibrium regime corresponding to large amplitude (spatially uniform but time-dependent) electric fields. We find a relationship between the expectation values for the charge current and for the part of the heat current that reduces to the Jonson-Mahan theorem in the linear-response regime. The nonlinear-response...
